Hello Bruce,
On the ninth photo, the pattern is very similar to a set of bbls on a 1901 GH 12 ga that I'm taking to the farm for a little exercise this weekend. Is the pattern referred to as "stars and stripes" and what can you tell (teach) me about it?
Thanks,
Jim

Parker called it three blade damascus steel. I think you can see stars and stripes in about any damascus pattern and I don't think that is a meaningful defining term. Doc Drew?
Others use the term rose damascus. They all look like roses to me. Almost all those barrels were off G's, so you can see a lot of variation.
The G's had the three blade damascus but it varies widely among G's and I've seen the same three blade pattern used in D's and C's. The barrels were supposed to grade up to 4 blade and to extra fine from fine, but I can't tell the difference many times. Good barrels regardless.

Thanks very much, Bruce, both for the pictures and the lesson - I've got a lot to learn.

Jim, we've had many discussions about damascus here and you could review some of the previous ones. They get complex and people try to count blades.
Maybe join the PGCA. Lots of folks here are into damascus. I use my GHE damascus for duck hunting and as a general all purpose 12. Good solid gun.

The barrels in the 9th photo are four-blade crolle Damascus usually seen on D & C grade guns.

See, Dean knows how to count them. I don't.
The ribs are off cut barrel guns that were scrapped. The photo was taken at Dale's. He kept them because they might have a use some day. Maybe somebody could put a couple together to make a long rib, who knows.
Extractor and ejector rods are in such short supply that some people buy cut barrels just to salvage the rods. Keep them greased and don't bend them because heaven help you if you need replacements. Also the doll's head rib extension is hard to find. People smash them dropping the barrels on concrete, and thats another hard to find replacement. The only time I dropped mine was thankfully over mud.
