I sent back a Repro today.... should have asked more questions. The gun is described as "98%" on the Internet at a fairly well known dealer. One more lesson learned: ASK-A-LOT-OF-SPECIFIC-QUESTIONS. Getting an education in gun trading is more expensive than my daughters private college. Here is a partial list of problems:

Stock was bent (This was never mentioned, some may want this, I don't know)
Stock was cracked on the left side (from bending to the right?)
Stock was sanded off on right side of receiver (perhaps due to bad fit after bending)
Stock was cracked behind the safety
Stock had small crack on right side of the face against the action
Trigger guard tang had EXTREMELY poor fit
Wood to metal fit was poor all around receiver
Most screw heads didn't align north-south
The fore-end had been taken apart and the screws were damaged and not put back together properly (wood to metal fit was bad also)
Many screws were buggered. The top tang, trigger guard, for-end, and floor plate screws were all significantly damaged
Oval was engraved (Should this be on an Internet listing??? I don't know)
The gun was dirty to the point where the safety was difficult to move. It was as if the gun were lubricated with bee's wax.
Barrels were very dirty, I tried to determine whether they were scored (even pitted) or just need not been cleaned.
Case hardening color mostly gone
I'll stop there....

I'd hate to see a 50% gun.

What the???? I'm out enough shipping to by a case of ammo. I should have taken pictures of it.

I don't want to go there. I just want to make sure guys do a better job than I did... ask a lot of questions and don't put much stock in advertising.

I take it there were no pictures or bad pictures in the ad? Seems some of that should have been clearly visible in decent pics.

Sounds like Internet that gun I bought when the ad read, "this gun shows little sign of having been used" when it was a TOTAL restoration job, all but the mangled and filthy internal parts of course. We live and learn I guess...

Be thankful they took it back.  The cost to ship one is nothing compared to eating the cost of one that could turn into a money pit.

The guy is very cool about taking it back. It bothers me that he would ship this gun without pointing this stuff out... its like he's just trying to pick somebody off.

That is the very reason I ask for a 3 day inspection period. If they won't honor the inspection period then I pass on the gun.

I wish you good luck in your search for a keeper.

Any dealer should be self insured and should only be charging you for basic shipping both ways.  That should be made clear before we have a gun sent in on inspection from a "dealer".  By the way, I don't see anything wrong with posting that "I bought a gun from XXX, I didn't like it, and I sent it back."  How could that be bad behavior on an internet site?

To me "I didn't like it" is different than "The gun was misrepresented".  "I didn't like it", the buyer should pay to send the gun back, "The gun was misrepresented", the dealer should pay to ship it back.  I think the feedback opportunity offered by the internet (think ebay) is a good thing.

Many good points. The intent of my post was not to flame a dealer but remind folks to ask questions and ask for pictures if clear detailed photos have not already been provided. One man's 98% gun is another man's 70% gun.

A dealer should know the difference, and we should know which dealers don't.

This is another reason to attend The Southern SXS at Sanford, NC.  You can see the guns in person.  You can handle the guns in the natural sunlight.  You can even shoot the guns at the patterning board.  If you want to buy a nice side-by-side shotgun come to THE SOUTHERN SXS in Sanford or THE VINTAGE CUP in Easton, Maryland.  Quit wasting your time shipping guns back and forth.

We should be posting these BAD DEALERS names in the secure, aka, members only, section of our website.  An ebay type rating system for Parker Dealers should be a main component of our website for paying members to access.

See You At The Southern,  Jent
