Bill, you know I read those books about ruffed grouse hunting and Spiller, and George Bird Evans and Wheaton's grouse camp and the traditions and then I leave the plains and go up to the woods. There I hunt all day and tear through the briars, get whacked by tree limbs, stumble, hear birds taking off but don't even see them and maybe get a couple shots if I'm lucky and if I'm really lucky I might hit a bird and then if everything is right the dog, well beat up by this time, might even find the bird to retrieve it.

And that constitutes a great day grouse hunting.

And then you come along with a picture of a great bag of grouse. Bill, I've never seen that many ruffed grouse in my life. Are you sure that is not trick photography where you show the same bird over and over?

Bruce,

My Dad is gone now but he was a very good wing shot.  But Mom was better going 5 for 5 one day with one clean double.

Bill, a fellow has to have something big when hunting hogs down along the Red River in Oklahoma. Maybe that .450 Nitro Express will be just the ticket . I'm going to start putting away a dollar a week in the Folger's coffee can.

Until then I'll have to be content with my one and only rifle, an old Win in .30'06, nothing exotic or special at all.
