Hi, my name is Matt Hirschy and I'm new to this website. My father and I are trying to determine what exactly we have and if possible, worth. We followed the directions on the website but have come across a problem. The only numbers we can find are 7532, which apparently means the gun was produced in 1876, and a 1 on the barrel lug. However, there APPEARS to be a 4 stamped on the flat. On the barrel is written "Parker Bros Makers Meriden Conn Plain Twist." This is an old side by side with two triggers. Unfortunately, I've tried two cameras and neither can show the 4 in question. We don't even know what gauge this gun is. Can anyone be of assistance?

Thank you,
Matthew Hirschy

It does appear to have been made in 1876. If the 1 is on the bottom of the back lug then it is a #1 frame so is most likely either a 12ga or 16ga. None of us can really help you with the value unless you can post a few pictures showing the entire gun and some relative closeups. More info would help. How are the barrels? Pitted or shiney? Pitting or corrosion on the outside of the gun? Does it seem to function? DO NOT cock and fire it without an empty shell or a snap cap in chambers to determine this. Does it lock up tight when you close it or can you wiggle the barrels some? Wood condition: cracks? scrapes/dings? Finish condition? Give us a good description of the gun. Does it have a top lever or a T-shaped assembly coming out of the bottom that opens the gun? Someone will look it up in the Serialization book and tell you what it says there if that number is in there. Don't give up; you'll get all the help you need on this site.

7532 is supposed to be a 30" barrel plain twist 12 gauge gun with pistol grip stock.  It is most likely what is referred to as a 0 (zero) grade gun, Parker Brothers' lowest grade offering at the time.  The number 4 is of little consequence, the condition of the gun the only thing separating a gun of those specifications from a $50 gun to a $4000 gun.  Pictures are the first step in determining condition.

Thank you Mr. Flanders and Mr. Murphy for your help. In response to your questions, we have studied the gun a little closer.

1. 30" barrel with a pistol grip stock
2. 12 gauge smokeless rounds fit perfect, 16 gauge is sloppy
3. Functions well and is tight when open; does not wiggle. Hammers and triggers also function well.
4. The wood is in very good condition and isn't cracked or chipped.
5. The inside of the barrels are in very good condition and shiney
6. The outside of the barrels are in good condition as well. Only two pin-sized dings and no pitting. The finish, as you can see, is rather dull.
7. Has a T-shaped level protruding from the bottom.

Neither my father nor I have ever fired, dry fired, or otherwise engaged this gun. It has been sitting inside in a gun cabinet for decades. Unfortunately I am unable to post pictures because the size allowance is smaller than my camera formats. However, if you email me I can send some pictures. Thanks again for the help.

I have a similar gun but a few years newer and with a toplever. It's a great duck gun with 32" twist bbls. see pic below.

Matt,

Please send more pictures. Just a few close ups of the frame and barrels. I can't tell if there are any colors left or pattern to the barrels or checkering on the stock.
