Seeing how the formula for recoil includes the weight of the powder, wad, and shot; when useing black powder the recoil gets a little higher than when useing smokeless. I used to hunt geese with a 8ga O/U muzzleloaded I made. It weighed 22 lbs and that was a good thing because my load was 4 oz of shot and 14.6 drams of 1F. It would drop em stone dead at 65 yards, but if you weren't standing just right it would push you on your back side. That was 30 years ago, don't think I'd shoot it at my age again with that charge. I never was a big fan of bismuth though I've shot a lot of it. Don likes it though, and has probably shot more of it than I have. My experience with NiceShot has only been this past season but it seemed to do the job at least as well as Kent TM which has always been my favorite. Russ Bickle has done a lot of testing with it in his handloads and says it throws gorgeous round tight patterns. I've never put it on paper, too stingy to waste the shells when I could be shooting them at fowl I guess.

Destry: I found 5 boxes of 12ga Bismuth ammo at a shop yesterday, 4 of 3" #2 shot and 1 box of 2-3/4" 1-3/8oz #6 of all things. Old stock I think. Hulls are Estate and the old price tags were $21.45. I bought them all but left a few boxes with BB shot there as I already have a bunch of that and rarely get to shoot at geese or cranes. Sure hate to cut this stuff open just for the shot. May not cut open the #6 stuff open.
