I recently tried to post some pictures that were in the 900,000 byte range and noticed that this site is constrained to 300k. The pics were taken by someone else and sent to me on a disc. Is there any way to alter the data to allow posting? Are there certain cameras that take pics with different bytes, or can one select between settings on the camera?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

You can either post process them in a photoshop like program or change your camera settings. Most have at least 3 choices of resolution that will change the file size in Kbytes. Some seem to have luck emailing them to themselves and in the process they get automatically downsized. I've not done that and don't know how it works.

Brian,
You can also open the pictures on your pc using Paint (on Windows it is found in the Accessories folder). After opening the picture, click on "Resize and Skew" and enter a percentage in Horizontal and Vertical resize. Save the picture using a new file name, check the size using Windows Explorer. Trial and error will give you a photo that can be posted.

I think the Mac used a program called iPhoto. Try going to http://www.apple.com/mac and see what you can find out. There should be some rudimentary photo editor included on you Mac. Look and try is the best way to learn.

I don't know about Mac's but they are generally versatile with handling pictures. The key commands to look for are "resize" and "compress". Usually when you resize or compress the new pixel dimensions will be displayed.
If you adjust your camera to produce 300 kb images, the largest prints will be about 2x 3 inches.
Best, Austin

With an Apple computer do the following: First select the photo you want in iPhoto (it will have a yellow border when selected). The on the lower right section of the iPhoto program window you'll see a button that says "email" - select that. This will generate an email with the photo attached. But first it will ask you what size. Select medium (or small). When the email has generated, drag the photo to your Desktop and delete the email. You can then choose the file from your Desktop in the file menu that pops up when you push the Choose File button provided in the Post Reply window on this site. That sounds more complicated that it is, I think you'll find it simple once you've done it a time or two. Last edited on Fri Apr 3rd, 2009 12:27 am by Dave Fuller
