I plan on sending off for the info about this shotgun. It was given to my wife and I from her Grandmother. This was my wifes Grandfather's Shotgun. When we got it, it was so rusty I didn't know how beautiful it was until it was cleaned. I knew it wasn't any ordinary Gun and am glad I found this forum. I am not a good picture taker and do not have a good camera but here is a picture. I hope someone can help me out with this and let me know what I have. I have had a blast researching and cleaning this Shotgun.
Thank You.
The serial # is 47462 there is a # 3 above these #'s

Thanks, it looks pretty good now, some pitting on the barrel though.
Does anyone know if this was considered a good gun at the time it was made? Would a common person own such a gun for hunting or was this for the serious hunter?

On one side is engraving of a dog and what might be a Pheasant. The other side is a dog on point and a quail ?

Mr Scott, a person could buy 4 or 5 common shotguns for the price of the lowest grade Parker, and it remains so today. Parkers were bought by serious gunners.
Yours is a mid grade gun, by far not the lowest grade, and was and is a treasure to its owners. In the days when a Win. shotgun sold for $15, your gun was a $100 gun, to put it in perspective. And a working man may have made $20/week. Treat the gun well.
Where are you in the state? I'm on the west side, one of the top Parker collectors is on the east side, and I spend a lot of weekends mid state on Lake of the Ozarks.

J, does it have the standard skeleton but plate? What shape are the barrels in? Looks like a very nice Parker. Ron Last edited on Sat Mar 28th, 2009 06:43 pm by Ron Conover

Mr. Day..thank you for the info.
Ron...I am not sure of the different styles of Butt Plates, here is what it looks like.
Also, the picturs don't show it, but the barrel and trigger guard are blued and not silver in color as the rest. Is this nickel plated ?

J, that is a skeleton but plate, the signature but plate for higher grade Parkers. As an aside, not even those foggy pics can hide what is a fine looking Parker. A real family treasure. The damascus barrels could have been blued or original damascus barrels replaced. What does the top of the rib engraving say and what are the length of those barrels? Sounds like somebody blued your barrels. This is what they can and should look like. Fortunately, one of the finest barrel refinishers around lives in Kansas City. Attached Image (viewed 300 times):

It does have the swirls, after looking closer under a flashlight but has a lot of tarnish. Would using Hopps and 0000 steel wool be OK to take the rust and tarnish off ?

Mr. Scott: No please don't do that. Take your gun to Bruce's guy in KC & let him do it right. If not, just leave it as is. Not doing it right can destroy the value.
Just My Humble Opinion.......George

I could meet you at Joe Patrikus's shop in Camdenton some Saturday. JP likes to talk guns. I'd give you my recommendations which are generally to do as little as possible to get the gun decent looking, not new looking. 816 305 7953
Post a bunch of pictures of your barrels, some guys have a way of cleaning off the crud but lets look at them first.

What exactly do I have here value wise $600.00 to $800.00 ? What would it cost (ball park figure) to get the barrel looking good, and what would that add to the value?.
Right now I just have a good looking family heirloom that could be worth some money.
Thanks for everyone's help, I really appreciate it.
I do drive thru KC from time to time, was raised in Independence. Does this person have a Gun Shop?

Not sure if anyone will be able to tell the shape the barrels are in.

Call Dale at 816 444 2040 for barrel refinishing.
I can't tell much about the barrels with those photos. They look like they've been blued. Blued damascus is a minus on value and there is no way to get them right except a complete refinishing. If they were hot tank blued, the barrels could be corroded under the ribs and ruined, or the ribs could be so loose they need to be relayed. Dale needs to look at them.
