Many of you know Pete Kappes , a Parker collector, who farms outside Ada, Minnesota. Ada is in the Red River flood plain between Fargo and Grand Forks and itself has feeder streams going into the Red. Pete's fields are covered in standing water now and he just got 10" of new snow on top of that. His house outside Ada now only has one road that he can get out on. There is talk that the flood crest on the Red has yet to reach Fargo, then north to Grand Forks and ultimately Winnepeg. When I lived in Grand Forks, about this time of year we often got blizzards that dumped up to a couple feet of wet snow on us.

So, maybe we can wish Pete the best and hopes that he will escape the worst.

I bet those folks never realized that they might someday need to have houses on sturdy stilts.... Hope your house and outbuildings stay above the waters Pete.

My God Pete pack up your dogs and guns and come and stay with Anita and I until the creek quits rising and its time to plant corn.

Good luck

Greeting from the Red River Valley Flood Zone!

Our water is going down here, but Fargo-Moorhead will reach their crest Saturday or Sunday. Many areas have been evacuated along the Red River.

Some pictures are attached of the water around our home.

Can see by the ice on the tree trunks that the water is receeding.

Keep your powder dry.

Looks like just another pleasant spring day along the North Dakota/Minnesota border. Keep the boat tethered to the house, Pete.

Pete, what's the situation? Heard there was another blizzard and another foot of snow.

Any rioting by those treacherous Swedes yet?

Eight to eighteen inches of snow has fell in the Dakotas and MN. Cold weather has froze some of the areas and has slowed the flow to the River River. All ethnic groups have worked together inside the Fargo Dome to fill 3 million sand bags and place them in record time! All small towns along the Red River have been struggling with sand bagging too. Crest may not get as high, but the duration will be longer especially with the added snow.

PS-My favorite gun shop in Fargo has stayed dry!

Pete, you stay high and dry. Great people up there and I enjoyed my time living in the Forks, particularly when I could get gone for for part of the winter. When that water receeds, you let me know if I can help.

Best, Bruce

Pete: I tried to e-mail you but no address listed here. I wish you the best buddy. No wonder that South Dakota weather we hunted in didn't bother you.   Dick Dow
