I am starting to put together the second section of Iron Men of Gundom, for the Summer issue of Parker Pages. If anyone has a picture of a trap shooter or shooters with a Parker(s) please send it on.

Best, Austin

How "great" could he have been if he didn't shoot a Parker? ;)

HE wrote a fascinating book called "Forest McNeir of Texas" , which I read abot 25 years ago about his early days of Duck Hunting on Galveston Bay with his doublegun

and his involvements  in Trap Shooting in this area. It was one of my incentives to

become a doublegun fan. He was one of the most important factors in the Gulfcoast

to promote the Trap and other shotgun sports.

Taken at his daughter's shotgun wedding!  Look at the expression on his face.

The picture of Forest McNeir brings back fond memories of my neighbors from years back. I live at a small country club in Ohio and my trap shooting neighbors talked often of McNeir ,they shot with him at the Grand and the New York Athletic Club.

When I first moved there in 66 they were still shooting. Dr. Roose shot a 34" B grade single which he used to break 200 straight  in the North American clay target championship. He lost in the shootoff to Joe Devers. His other guns were a 32TC and a 21 Skeet. His wife is the only woman to ever win the Ohio State Handicap Champinship. Her guns were an Ithaca No 4 and a VHE 20 Skeet. The club had two trap fields 75 yards from the Roose house. The fields havn"t been used since World War Two, but thats where they started shooting.

My other neighbor Pie Ballie whom also won the Ohio State Handicap Championship got me started shooting and He often talked of McNeir. His guns were a 21 Trap and GHE 20 Skeet.

My nightly walk takes me over the old trap fields and in 2005 at the Ohio Shoot a friend from our town won the Ohio State Doubles Championship with a 100 straight and I took Class A with a 99. The next night when I walked over the old field I said Hey gang we brought Two more trophies home to add to yours. And again in 2006 when I brought home Three Championship  trophies I repeated it.

That's a great story Alan.

I see Mr. McNair's shirt has french cuffs.  Those were the days when people dressed better to shoot trap than we do now to go to church.

Ed- Both Roose and Ballie wore neck ties when they shot.
