Destry,

I would normally have a long response to your post, but I am late for my AA meeting.

I am meeting at the moment with my Antique Arms emergency support person.  Unfortunately, he is of no help.  So hoisting a glass and an afternoon toast to Scotch lovin' Parkerphiles

Cheers,
Jack

I just received a 1957 vintage M70 in .300 H&H. By looking at the bolt face it hasn't seen many rounds as there is hardly a primer ring on it. A solid 98% gun. It came equipped with a Leupold 3X9 and as I have brass and dies I'll work up a load with some 165gr NBT and be ready for deer season.

A .300 H&H???? Christ you'll be ready for water buffalo season with that thing. I'd think it would blow a hole big enough to drive a truck through on a whitetail.

Destry I believe your thinking of a .375 H&H and that is capable of taking a Water Buffalo or Cape Buffalo. The .300 H&H will compliment my .375 H&H.

Just so you know I have shot deer with my .416 Taylor and done more damage to the meat with a .270.

Damaged meat with a .270?? That would indicate a poorly placed shot unless you're counting the heart as "meat" to be avoided in placing a killing shot.

For a person who is loading his own, one can load a shell for the game at hand. The 300 H&H or Winchester magnum can be loaded to modest velocity. David

My pet .458 deer load was 64 grains of 4064 and gave a modest 1800 fps with the Speer 400 gr "blue nose". That same charge in the .375 H&H with the Speer 235 gr bullet @ 2400 fps was a dandy deer load as well.

It's my birthday, 732 months old, and its a little after 1000. I think I'll have a wee dram of Balvenie 12 year old Double Wood.

Cheers, Harry

Harry, One of the Balvenie family would be my choice on my birthday or any other.

Aberlour is another fine Scotch , Haven't been able to find any in awhile.

Happy Birthday Harry:  My 732 months were completed last Friday the 13th.  The clan Macallan proposed the toast with a medicinal ounce of sweet nectar.  Balvenie couldn't be there, apparently chasing after Aberlour trying to determine why he's rarely seen  of late.

Cheers,
Jack

Harry;

Happy day of aging

I shall indeed do a mega toast to your birthday and to anyother reason you can come up with. The anointment will be Oban and I'll violate the pour at four Giles house rule by about three and a half hours.

Cheers; Roger Coger

This is a Bottle of 70+ year old Cognaq that my Uncle gave me 20 years ago.  You can see that part has evaporated over the years.  I am saving it for a special occassion in my life that has not yet been Identified.  I have a couple very close friends that I want to share it with when that time arrives.

Dean I use Jack O'Connors load for the .270 which is I believe is 50+ grains of IMR 4831 and a 130gr bullet. I like the Ballistic Tips and one placed tight behind the shoulder will put some burger meat in the trash in a hurry.

I also like the point of the shoulder shot placement. Once again some meast loss but they fold in their tracks and there is no tracking and therefor no loss of the entire animal.

I once took a deer with my .416 Taylor and a 300gr  Barnes X bullet as she faced me head on. The bullet went through her lengthwise and was about the same sized hole going in and coming out. It lifted her about three feet off the grond and she twitched once and that was it. NO MEAT LOSS:D. I have liked the big heavy bullets ever since.
