I thought religious Christmas scenes were politically incorrect, but I'm told the last ACLU activist out here is somewhere in Boot Hill, so I suppose its OK.

So, I'll leave you with best wishes for 2009 from the Parker Gang, somewhere in the western plains out on the big windy.

Pete,

If you get a chance, send a picture of Bert.  I would like to see him.

Unfortunately, one of Bill's dogs, Parker the puppy, got hit by a car when he was out hunting birds in Kansas yesterday.  Nothing broken!  Tore up the flesh pretty bad and had stitches and was coughing.  The vet said she should be fine.  Gave her a steroid shot, stitched her up and put her on antibiotics for 7 days.  Thank goodness she is doing better today.  They are on route back to Michigan.

Hope to see a picture of Bert!

Noel

Doc Van!

Thank you and your wife for the hospitality.  Bill and the girls had a wonderful dinner and a great night stay.  Thank you for getting them off this morning.  Bill said he enjoyed his entire time out there with all of you.  Great conversation, hunting and commaradery!  Maybe I will get to meet some of you this summer when we head out west for some fly fishing and other great adventures.

Bill is expected back home on Saturday afternoon.  I will be sure to let you and your wife know when he is back safe and sound.

Thank you again.

Noel

Noel, here's Bert, another Llewellen setter. In back are Pete Kappes and Mark Vollinger, from our SoDak trip in Nov.

The little one in front is a Gordon setter.

And here's a Hampshire setter. Turned out to be a bit of a game hog.

Thank you for the picture, Bruce.  Handsome dog, that Bert !  Maybe Bill and Pete should let the boy and girls meet!  They are great dogs.  I have never had setters myself.  I have always had lab's.  I currently have a black lab and retriever mix.  Wonderful dog and very eager to please.  I realize the pointer is your favorite and by the way he looks like a great dog.

You have been great!  Thank you for helping set up the hunt in Kansas on the Great Plains.  I believe everyone had an amazing time.  I can't wait to head out that way and meet everyone and of course, do a little hunting myself.

Noel

By the way, Pete, Bert?  Pete, Bert?  I think I have to go with Bert, Pete.  Nice looking dog!  And, if what I have read and heard so far, he has definitely earned it!

Noel  I sure hope that Parker dog heals well from her accindent. It really is the dogs that keep us hunting, remembering the good, and forgetting their bad days, makes for great memories. Pete K.

Thank you Pete.  What you say is so true.  Nothing compares to a loyal, four-legged best friend who has a true, unconditional love for his/her owner and the sport of hunting.  Take care.  Noel

Well I finally made it back to Michigan, Its a balmy 10 degrees.  Parker is back to her usual self.  She ended up with about 15 stitches and a little sore, but no broken bones.  She will go in Monday for follow up with my vet.  As soon as I am done with a few of my domestic chores and other manly things, I will post some pictures.

Bill: I am so relieved that you and the girls got home ok and that Parker is up and going. It was such a good time.  It's 29 here and no wind and bright and sun shiny.

Best Regards,  Van

I want to thank Bruce Day for putting together one of the best trips with First class gentlemen.

I had the time of my Life.  When I left Michigan it was -17deg,  When I arrived in Kansas the temps where between 60 -71 deg during the day.  I questioned my dogs abilities based on there  only experience was with Michigan Grouse.   I was pleasantly suprised of my older dog Judy and the puppy Parker's performance.  They repeatedly pointed Quail and  pheasants.  Yea those birds run but they managed to figure this out.  Bruce, Don and Matt, Doc Van and Charley Herzog are the best hunting parters you could ever want to spend time with.  Its a shame Mr Dunkle could not attend. If your ever interested in eating Prime rib, Steaks, Quail and Kansas city Barbeque, this is the group you want to hunt with.  Don kept saying come back next year in the early season and you will see more birds, the only thing is we saw lots of birds in the late season and no other hunters.  I will try to post some Pics of the Dogs in action.   THANKS TO ALL MY NEW FRIENDS.

Bill, great pics and I am glad you had a good time out here. We do have some great hunting and every once in a while a person can scrounge up a decent Parker.

Lots of people don't hunt past the first two weeks of the season, but we often have some nice weather in Jan and you have to work a bit harder to find the birds and it is a good way to close the season. Its uncommon that you see another hunter.

You mentioned "chickens". I think you are talking about prairie chickens ?
