I think my last thread/post exchange with Dave is spurring me to post this - so - here we go.. It is time...
Over the past few months, I've been programming and hosting a new website for PGCA with the BODs full support.. As many of you know - this Forum (where you are reading this) has some issues, and it resides on a third party domain server.
So - here is the deal....
After many months of programming - I'm ready for a full beta test of the new forum (that means you ). The code/server/circuits all reside on my equipment - and the new forums have a LOT of new features (pictures, attachments, image handlers, new forums, lightslide, etc..)
Anyway..... If you REGISTER to post - your REGISTRATION information will NOT be lost after we make the change and "go live"... As well - when you register - you will see a whole bunch of new forums.....
Ready??? OK - go here:
http://parkerguns.org
Looks like this site right??? (heck it should - we did the revamp )
However...............
On the link above... Click on "Discussions Forum" which will take you to the new forum here:
http://parkerguns.org/forums/
Best to you,
John

My thought.... Ummm... Is to tie in PGCA Members with a unique title (Like PGCA Member )
BUT - until I know who is a current Member or not - suffer with me, OK??
BTW - if you make a few posts - you are not "Junior" anymore..
Great catch Dave - and there are a few features still behind the curtain...

John,
New site won't accept my old user name and password. Whats up? Does it require I change?

The post says to REGISTER there and I took that to mean there is no backwards communication between the BETA site and this one. I would think you can REGISTER using the same username and password you use here but that you must REGISTER first.
p.s. I really like the look of the BETA Site too, very nice........

Hi Bob!
Yep - folks need to register.. As you can tell - there is no way to "Import" or share code between the two systems.. As well - I'll be working on that code today - as some folks have already posted some great suggestions!!
My thanks!

John,
Will this site be closed down at some point? The last thing I need is more websites to be checking during the workday.

Hi Larry..!
Eventually - yes.. Jeff Greg & I have a ways to go to migrate the information off of this Forum, so it will be a bit of time..? Right now - I'm working on the core image handlers on the new Forum as well as styles, automatic picture resizes, etc..
So - the short answer is yep..
Best to you!

John
Are you going to import/copy legacy posts to a new site before closing down this one ?

Hi folks...
Our thanks to ALL of you how have posted back in this thread - and posted in the new forum some incredible suggestions for improvements are bugs you've found.. I think I have most of the bugs squashed (but a few are still there - I'm working on them.. )
Also - yes - it's our intent (<---notice that word ) to make all the posts on this forum accessible and able to be searched (Greg & Jeff are doing that - thanks guys!!).. The real difficulty is that this forum (where you are reading this) has no way of "exporting" the database to the new forum (which has always been one of my issues for backups). It was never meant to, I guess..??
Anyway - we are doing all we can to make this transition as easy as possible - and second - move the Forum technology into a feature rich environment for any Member or Parker enthusiast...
My thanks again to all!
John

Hats off to all those involved in the new board project. The effort and time involved in its creation shows. This will be a great step forward for the PGCA.

That's pretty slick. I got in, got registered, and posted. If I can do it anyone can. I really like the way the picture of Dave's hammer gun came up. My compliments sir! Jack Last edited on Thu Nov 20th, 2008 06:02 pm by Jack Lester

John, thank you to you and all who are working on the new site. It looks great. This may be a bit off topic, but do you know if there has been any more consideration of setting up the payment of membership dues and research letters using some form of electronic payment? This is probably more of an issue for the non U.S. members with the need to get U.S. dollar certified checks or travellers checks for payment, but it would make it easier for all. Thank you.

Hi Jack and Bob..!
Yea - I tried to make it easy Anyway - my thanks for giving it a test drive! As well - thanks to all of you for helping find and squash some "nits".. Anyway - to your question Bob..
I presented this to the BOD during our staff meeting in Maryland - and yes - I have the hooks in to do what you envision. They are not enabled yet, as we need to make some decisions about the workflo of what happens if someone uses the automated system (I'm speaking in terms of Membership at this point).. In other words - the technology allows someone to pay their dues on-line, and withing a few seconds of payment receipt - they get bumped on the Forum to "PGCA Members" status, and will have access to some Member Only forums (all forums are visible as of today until we get through the test phase). All that is totally automated from the code..
HOWEVER - on the back end - remember - Membership deliveribles are MANUAL! Assigning Member numbers for new folks, renewals for existing folks, PP subscriptions, certificates, cards, etc. Tom & Jennifer have to pull all that together - and it's not easy! Sooo - anyway - the BOD, Tom, Jennifer etc. are all looking at the ramifications...
There are some neat things as well.. Like - if you use the technology to join or renew - you'll get automated notices through the Forum (and extend/renew), etc..
Anyway - we are getting there..!!
My thanks again to all!!!
