This is the second early Parker I've seen wiyh this so-called "Convertible Grip." I can't find anything about this style of grip in the Parker Story and I'm just wondering if anyone knows how many guns Parker may have made with this oddball grip or anything else about them ... Thanks Guys !

Jim:  I once owned Parker Brothers number 295.  It was a 10-gauge back-action with laminated barrels.  It had an added pistol grip attachment similar to the one in your picture.  It was attached with one screw onto the original straight grip trigger guard.  It was very well made and fitted and I believe it might have been a factory job.  The 295 gun had obviously been back to the factory at some time for an alteration to the original bolt and the lifter extension had been removed and the hole plugged.  This gun is pictured on p 229 of TPS and other places without the pistol grip addition.  I had not seen another one until your picture.  Charlie Price

I have a straight grip live bird gun that has a tapped hole in the gaurd tang in the proper spot to attach a pistol grip. This gun has been modified many times, and I always assumed that tapped hole was for a grip extension.

Fruend's gun shop in Denver,I believe, did similiar modification to Sharps rifles in the 1870's and 1880's. Maybe someone else thought it was a good idea for a shotgun also.

Charlie ... Adding your 295 gun to the gun at Puglisi's, the gun in Dean's photo, and the gun I bought yesterday, there are at least four guns with the "Convertible Grip." so it's a pretty good bet that it was a little known factory option ... I should have my gun in a week or so, depending on how quickly the wagon train gets from the east coast to the AriZOona Cactus Patch and I'll order a Parker Letter once I verify the serial number.

Jim:  Not sure, but the gun at Puglisi's may be the one I once owned, serial 295. Keep up the investigation.  Charlie

Here is another one. I have a lifter 10ga #11364 with a convertible grip like that. It is made of leather and has two screws that go into the trigger guard holes. It is well made and could be one of the ones made in Denver. That is were I got it.

Jim,

Add Parker #156 to your count.  If I can find the photos I will post them.
