Hello all.

Wondering about an approximate value for a Parker 20 gauge with a 1901 serial number? I know this is kind of an open ended question, and many factors are involved, but it is in very nice condition and I believe it had a damascus type barrel.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

Andrew

Andrew, we can't even begin to address this without your providing the complete serial number. Good quality pictures would be a distinct advantage in trying to assess value which is almost entirely dependant on condition.

Andrew: A complete serial number will, probably, give us the grade, barrel type & original measurements from the serialization book. As Dean said good quality pictures would help establish condition, all of which determine the value.

Best Regards, George

Start with a serial number, dimensions, and markings.  Next step is to post pictures.  A 1901 20 gauge Parker, depending on condition and configuration, could be worth $125.00 or $200,000.00.  Good luck.  We are eager to help.

I understand - and do apologize.

The serial number is 149372 and the gun is in excellent condition.  Actually, I do have some pics - let's see if we can make this work. They are not the best quality, but may provide some insight.

Your gun was manufactured in 1908. It is a Vulcan hammerless 20 ga. with 28" "Vulcan Steel" barrels (Not Damascus) with extractors.  Assuming that the bores are bright with no pitting, the original Dogs Head hard rubber butt plate is there under the lace-on and there are no serious dents in the barrels or cracks in the stock, I will give my two cents worth as to value as around $2,000 + or - 500.

Good luck with your gun.

Carl.

Thanks, Carl. Not sure why I thought that was 1901...I even thought I got that from the serial number id page here - guess not!

Andrew,

I think Carls estamate is just about right. I bought basicly the same gun in a little better condition and paid $2,500.00.

I will be different and say that I believe that estimate is low. An all-original VH 20 with no issues other than routine wear (finish, etc.) should bring at least 3K. I have not seen one on the internet in that kind of condition for any less than that. A Trojan 20 for 2K maybe...

By the way, I love the ball grip.

Perhaps you didn't notice the pinned repair of the head of the stock Jim. To some such a repair wouldn't make a difference but I have not yet met them. In my opinion Carl is right on the money. Dean

All other things being equal, would a damascus barreled 20 be more or less valuable nowadays?

Weston, value has a lot more to do with opinion and preference than it has to do with which is the better gun as a cold hard fact. Some prefer fluid steel while others prefer the inherent beauty of Damascus and the art it represents. As far as collectibility and desirability is concerned Damascus barreled Parkers are very quickly catching up to the "value" of fluid steel barreled Parkers, "all other things being equal", especially in the eyes of the collector or shooter who appreciates the beauty of the artform of the shotgun in its heyday. I prefer Damascus but only if it is what we consider to be shootable.

You are correct, Dean. I missed it! It is not as obvious in the picture as they usually are, and it definitely qualifies as an issue. And you are also right - I am also one of the ones it would matter to. It usually turns me completely off. And such a shame - there is no need to do this to repair a split stock! Sorry for clouding the issue. The estimate is, as you say, a good one.

I believe I also have a double barrel with a 1901 serial number - 100963 - any details on the gun would be greatly appreciated.

My first BB so if I have posted incorrectly, I apologize.

Leigh Anne,

You do indeed have an early 1901 Parker DH 12 gauge with capped pistol grip and 30" Damascus barrels.

Welcome to the Parker Gun Collectors. You might start a new "thread" for this Parker, post some pictures and we will help with value.

Kindest, Harry
