A neighbor of mine was reclined in the barber's chair about fifteen years ago and was quite aware or the remodeling going on in the adjacent office by the noise coming from the other side of the wall. Then there came the bang-bang-bang of the nail gun and then... his life changed forever.
A nail missed it's mark on the vertical 2x4 and came through the sheet-rock wall and pierced his neck. Bone deflected the nail somewhat to the point where it went through at an angle severing most of his spinal cord. Instantly he was a quadraplegic.
After months in the best hospital in Boston he was allowed to return home. His wife was devoted to his full recovery but after a little over a year of endless work to make him comfortable, ease his mental anguish and try very hard to help him to become a whole man again with no appreciable improvement... she left him.
