The Shoot was put on by the Greater Los Angeles Chapter of the California SxS Society.

Alas The winner was L.C. Smith.... also the second prize went to those Smith shooters. The third place was won with a Flues model Ithaca.

THIS IS GOING TO STOP!

To arms gentlemen.....To arms.

This was a great shoot, and we hope to forward it to Dan Cote and his staff at the Doublegun (and single shot ) Journal.................................Jim Thynne

Sounds fun.  I wish there was something like that here in Nebraska.  I shot in Lincoln Sunday with my Parker SC and Remington 32.   I always enjoy peoples reactions to a legendary vintage trap gun.  I wish there were more people out there using them.

Jim: Would you send me a few lines and some pictures? We have a dearth of west coast events in Parker Pages.

Thanks, Austin

Ross,
Perhaps I failed to mention to you when you were in Lincoln last week, that Lincoln Trap & Skeet Club has a "Vintage Trap League," which allows only older guns. I shot a damascus barreled #2 FrameDH Parker that I bought from Oscar Gaddy. The winner of the league shot a single-barrel Parker, and the second and third place fellows shot a model 97 Winchester, and a Model 21, respectively. In order to keep it "Vintage, we drew the line at Model 12's, but allowed any side-by-side or older single barrel trap gun, such as Parker, LC Smith, etc. We, of course excluded Ljutics, Kolars, K-80's,Perazzi's, and the like.

Also, this fall, we will host our second annual "Gentlemen's Side-by-Side Low Gun Skeet League." This was a hit last year, with lots of kibitzing, kidding, hooting, and general fun by all the shooters. In it, I shot my #1 frame DHE 16 gauge, and we handicapped in this manner: 12 gauge=0 16 gauge =1, 20 ga=2, 28 ga=3, .410 =4. The winner of the close race was a gentleman who shot for the most part an AyA 28 gauge, although he has an array of side by sides to make anyone envious. I believe you met him, and believe you me, he can shoot "lights out." I've learned a lot about low pressure loads, and old doubles from this group.

Sincerely;
Sam Ogle, Manager, Lincoln Trap & Skeet Club

Sam,

       When is the vintage trap league?  I guess I should have asked when you mentioned the skeet shoot.  Let me know when some of these shoots are and I will try to come.  There isnt anybody out in this area that I know of who shoots old stuff.  Im glad you responded. Thanks, Ross

Ross, the Vintage Trap League was May 6th through May 30th this year. Next year (2006) I am going to open it up to Black Powder Cartridge shooters as well. We will see how it goes.
We have not set 2006 dates as of yet, but I expect it will be at about that same time next year. I expect 2005's "Gentlemen's Side by-side low-gun Skeet League" to start the Tuesday Evening after Labor day; or about September 6th. I can't wait too long, as these guys are bird hunters, and would rather shoot feathered things as soon as the seasons open.
In the Vintage trap league, my 32" Damascus Barreled Parker just boiled targets, so I put the gun club's choke gauge in it, and was interested to see the choking started 4" back from the muzzles. I was slow in learning just how damn hot barrels get with splinter forearms. Next year, it's one of those leather slip on deals for sure. I shot Remington 2 3/4" gun club loads, but next year, am going to try some low pressure stuff. A skeleton buttplate hammers you just a little with "modern" trap loads, and we shot all targets from the 16 yard lines.
Sincerely;
Sam Ogle

Ross, Sam, and Easterners

The Grafton Co Fish and Game Assn., in Lebanon NH shoots skeet Mondays, trap Wednesdays, and Five Stand Thursdays, beginning at 4 PM , May thru September. We do not have a S x S league, but it is not unusual for half of the squad to be shooting S X S including hammerguns, at skeet and five stand.  I shot in a squad yesterday that included a Parker P hammergun, a Webley and Scott 410 hammergun, a Winchester 21, and an American Browning 20 with a Cutts.

We also have three regular S x S shooters at trap.

Lebanon is 2 1/2 - 3 hours from Boston, Hartford and Albany.

Best, Austin
