I am a greenhorn on here, so thanks for being patient.  I purchased a Parker DH 12 ga and was so excited, except when I put the barrels on, the gun locked up as it should, but now I cannot for the life of me get the barrels to break.  Is there a trick to Parkers that I do not know?  The lever moves the right slightly, but does not seem to disengage.  Thanks for your help.

Do you know that the barrels have the same serial number as the receiver? ie: are they the original barrels? And, did you have shells or snap caps in the gun when you closed it? Anything with too large a diameter of the extractor rim will cause the gun to lock up, sometimes pretty tight. I just got a pair of snap caps from Jeffs outfitters that lock my VH20 up as they bind in the rim recesses in the barrels. If something like this is the cause it can be locked up quite tightly. I have in the past had to put the gun in a vise with the jaws padded with rubber pads and very very very gently press the barrel onto the water tables until the locking lug could be unlocked with the top lever. You could also use a Pony bar clamp with rubber pads on it. Whatever you do, you have to be extremely careful not to damage the gun. It could be that someone did some work on your gun to bring it back on face more tightly and just over did it. Good luck and keep asking questions of us as you work on it and let us know if you succeed. You will find all the help you need on this forum.

Thanks.  The barrels are not original to the gun.  They appear to be made in Brescia, Italy in 1960 with the proof marks.  I have not tried to force it and will take it to a gunsmith as I do not want to damage my new toy!  It appears that the gun has been restored at some point in the last 40 years because it looks too good.  The fore end and receiver have matching numbers, 10,4XX.  I came across the gun at an antique mall in rural Alabama and could not pass it up.  I'll post some pics so I can get some more information. Thanks for help

I have a  P grade that locks up like that every now and then.  I can't explain what is happening but the rear trigger does not move fully to its forward position.  Once I move the trigger forward the top lever opens the barrels as it should.

Greg. It sounds like your trigger blade is hanging up. I find in taking Parkers apart that nearly every one of them has a fair bit of rust and gunk built up in the trigger blade area and needs a good cleaning there. I've encountered sticky blades several times. The spring that returns the triggers forward is not very stiff so rust can easily stop it from doing it's job properly. I clean and hose the entire trigger assembly area down with ballistol, which seems to work very well.

Hi Greg,  I had that same problem and when I disassembled it I found a (I believe the left) broken hammer.  It was broken into two pieces.  Pushing the trigger forward allowed it to open.  Cheers, Tom

Tom and Richard, thanks for the thoughts on the P grade.  I suspect that a good cleaning is called for, but I will pay attention to the hammers.
