My 12ga. VH Ser.#106387 won't open far enough to cock the hammers.

This is a new problem.

There is no debris or foreign objects anywhere that I can see.

Any suggestions?

I had a similar problem where the automatic safety bound up the gun.  If you force it open from this point you may bend some of the internal parts.

Check to see if the safety is stuck part way back.  If it is, push the triggers forward while trying to move the safety the rest of the way back to "safe".  If the safety moves back the gun may open.

Let me know if this makes a difference.

No that doesn't seem to be it Jeff.

I can feel the springs starting to tighten then , when the chambers are about half exposed, it stops dead.
