Tom, I am not sure that Bill Kempfler allows tubed guns in the many events offered at the Southern, as he did in the early years. All participants should read the rules before entering an event. Last edited on Mon Apr 9th, 2007 12:10 pm by Bill Murphy

Scott, the highest scoring shooters in past years have used a very narrow selection of long barrel, tight choked, often vent ribbed, Parkers and L.C.Smiths. One year, the highest scoring qualifier, later disqualified when his gun was found to be a Becker Fox, not a Parker or Smith, shot a 32" gun with about forty thousandths of choke in either barrel. As Tom suggests, this is not a skeet field. I am only aware of one team qualifier who ever shot the event with a gun smaller than 12 gauge. Our hero, Alex Papp, of RST Shells fame, qualified with a 16 gauge Trojan Parker and shot it very well.

Thank you for your replies. I have not attended the event and can not this year. However I will try to attend next year. The gun I have is a VHE 32" Parker Trap
with a vent rib # 239175, choked Full and Full. I look forward to the next challenge!

Scott, that particular gun with a non agressive spreader load should be ideal for the targets we have seen in past years. I have shot 7/8 ounce non spreader loads in the past through a trap gun bored like yours and thought I was just a wee tad overchoked on the close birds but ideal on the long ones. Those who can handle 1 1/8 ounce standard trap loads would be well suited with a bit more open choked gun, no less than modified. But who can tell, this year's birds may be a little closer.

Gentleman, I have received several phone calls and e mails concerning the Challenge and wheather the shooter can preregister. Registeration for the Challenge will start Thursday afternoon. You will be assigned a shooting time for Event One at that time. You can also register for the Hammer event at that time. Additional information is listed below. Practice will be Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. Event One starts at 12:20 pm Friday afternoon and runs through Saturday afternoon. Event Two begins at 3:30 Saturday afternoon. The information below will be given to you when register so if you could print it off at home it would help. Thanks and good shooting to everyone.
Welcome PGCA Member; and thank you for your attendance, registration, and participation in the 4th Annual LC Smith vs Parker Challenge Cup Event in Sanford, NC. Please read CAREFULLY:
The Challenge Event entry fee is a charitable donation in the amount of $10. Upon entry you are to receive your 2007 Challenge Event participation pin, instructions and time of shooting in Event ONE.
Tickets to the 5-stand venue for practice and for Challenge Events One and Two are $10 each and must be purchased at the Deep River Club House. Each member is responsible for his/her own individual tickets. Two 5-stand venues will be open for practice rounds until Event One qualifying begins at 12:20 PM on Friday (4/27), at which time the lower field will be used only for qualification.
Challenge Cup Event One qualifying rounds will begin at 12:20 PM Friday afternoon, April 27th; then resume at 8:00 AM Saturday morning, April 28th and continue until all entrants have completed qualification. All PGCA members must pre-schedule a shooting time upon registration at the booth; available squad times can be viewed at the PGCA booth.
Each PGCA member is required to be at the 5-stand field 15 minutes prior to his scheduled shooting time with gun, ammo, shooting glasses, and ear protection ready to move into position as soon as the preceding squad has completed shooting. Member cooperation in this effort is critical to insure smooth and timely completion of Event One.
All shooters shall report to the PGCA booth not later than 2:30 PM on the 28th and check their posted score. PGCA members who advance shall then report to the 5-stand field at 3:00 PM, with 5 stand ticket, gun and gear, for final squading and team instruction. Event Two begins at 3:30 PM; and qualifying shooters failing to report timely risk losing their spot to the next best shooter.
PGCA members not shooting in Event Two are encouraged to
Attend and cheer TEAM Parker onto VICTORY!
Lastly, each PGCA member is required to enjoy this great
opportunity for fun and fellowship to its fullest extent; and finally,
return for more of the same in April, 2008!

Several of us are getting there about 1:00 pm Thursday. We need some time to set up the display and get organized. I hope to be registering folks by 3:00 pm, maybe earlier, for the Challenge. The earlier you register the earlier a shoot time you will receive. The pactice fields should be going so you can practice to kill some time.

Here are the "2008 Rules" for those who want to review them for the 2009 shoot. Mark has posted that there will be minor changes in the shootoff procedures for 2009. Last edited on Fri Apr 10th, 2009 04:51 pm by Bill Murphy

Bill I missed making the team by one bird two years ago using a 16 (I forgot to take the saftey off) with 30 inch bbls. Last year Chuck Brunner made the team using a 20 and in years past another Parker member used a 20 to make the team. I don't remember his name but he used to work for Remington.
I'll miss this year but will cheer for team Parker from afar .

It could have been Jay Bunting. After seeing the birds, I doubt that he would have showed up at the finals with a 20 gauge.

It was Jay Bunting. As I recall he used a beautifull DHE 20 both to qualify and in the final round. Chuck Brunner also used a 20 last year in the final round as well as qualifying.
