Happy New Year everyone! Greg' Great job on the new website and board. Thanx for all your hard work. On to the topic' I have a great condition underlifter in the 20,000 serial range. it,s a 12ga. with 30" twist steel barrels on a Number 1 frame. The gun weighs 7lbs. 3 ozs. I am sending the barrels to Briley for a set of companion tube,s in 20ga. This will be my sporting clays fun gun for this year. My question to you guy,s is what over the counter shells would ya recommend. I reload all of my 12ga.skeet,trap and sporting loads but I don,t want to get into reloading 20 ga just yet. I,m looking for something to get the job done without beating up the old girl even though she lock,s up like a vault. What do you guy,s think. Thank,s in advance Best,Dave

For off the shelf 20ga loads for the Parkers I shoot I prefer AA target loads, but specifically not heavy target loads, in shot size 8 or 9. I know AA's are more expensive than some others but I really like the smell of the AA smoke... the others smell so acrid...
Anyway, with 20ga tubes in a sound 12ga gun you won't be doing it any harm with these loads.
Have fun!

Hi Dave, I am kinda surprised about your question... The best way to get very consistant loads is to build your own. You could shoot a 3000 psi load through your underlifter barrels with proper precautions. That is a 12 ga load tested by IMR. I have a 20 ga load with 6300 psi and 3/4 oz of shot. All commercial loads have to be under 1200 psi for target loads... but they are not. I would contact RST in new hampshire and william larkin moore in scottsdale... both firms claim they publish psi... there is also polywad. Everyone watches the cost of manufacture... but... I believe the big three watch the bottom line better than most. Read the "Finding out for myself" series in double gun journal. The series started in 2000. Sherm Bell blew up Oscar Gaddy's GH 12 bore with hefty loads. That caught my attention. Since then I regularly shoot my GH from the 27 yard line. The old timers at the club say I am an idiot and an inspiration. I am not quit sure how to think about the whole notion but I have fun. Oh, the 20 ga is an ithica withbarrel wall thickness of 25thou... not a dent or bulge, but again the gun was gone over by a respected damascus barrel man. See ya.

Dave: I have been shooting a lifter and a T/A with Briley's for about three years . AA's, Rem Gun Club, and Estate Skeet loads work fine. I re load with 1 grain less than the handbook skeet load of Unique.
Best, Austin
