Default Find the bird???

Recently, following a local hunt test I ran my Llewelyn setter, Max through the fields and he pointed around 2 dozen quail and chukkar (I actually lost count). He had a helluva 60 minute run pointing multiple birds with me flushing and firing the cap gun. There's a bird in this photo, can you find it?

The 2nd photo is Max on point and laser focused during a recent quail hunt. The beauty about this guy is he can hold a point for 10-12 minutes giving me time to walk up to get in flushing/shooting position without bumping the bird.

Nice setter! How old is he? Where is he from?

Max will be 2 in April. Came from Highland Kennels, Mechanicburg, IL ex-Glen Roark line of setters now owned by Caren Mansfield and J.D. Waters.

Years ago, when I was gunning Springer Trials, I would occasionally be asked to gun lesser trials or events - often involving poorly trained spaniels of various breeds - Boykens, Irish Water Spaniels, etc. Invariably they were run on chukars which were poor fliers - not getting more than 15 feet in the air, and flying 35 yards. Ugly gunning, to be sure

Yep, same problems associated w/quail..can't have them penned up too long. I was getting some fantastic Chukars from a fella that kept them on wire in a large pen far away from any day to day goings-ons. He fed them only at night. Would love to put in some boot time out west..supposedly pretty stressful in a good sort of way.

Figured that was the case. When I play the dog games it's generally in the VA area. I've heard the Clubs/Organizations in your area are pretty good. Those are my old stomping grounds as I grew up in that area..sadly the landscape up that way is hardly recognizable to me any longer, much has changed.

Good luck w/the pup, he's a fine looking dog!
