I average about 2500 rounds a year on the clay games and maybe 75 on game between upland and stocked birds. I would hurt to have to shoot a lead alternative.....
Let me correct this. I checked my calender because I keep track..Total targets in 2010 was 4,625 and add a few hundred more for Danny and now it would REALLY hurt..

Based on my use of primers and shot I estimate as many as 4000 rounds per year at targets. I might slow down to half that during a year when I'm busy with other priorities...
In a good year I shoot perhaps 100 rounds at waterfowl and maybe 50 at upland birds. Mark |

I would like to hear from some of our hot shots on this question. We know who they are. How about Mark Conrad, Doctor Truit, J.D. Shank, Smith guy Reverend Charles Brooks, Fox guys Mike Campbell, Frank "Silvers". I used to shoot more than ten thousand a year until I lost the sight of my right eye, only a fraction of that now. How about it, guys, come clean.

I shoot about 4,000 a year at sporting clays (I shot about 500 a week while in Italy 40 years ago and was a fairly good shot then. I just don't shoot enough to get good again.) I get invited to about a dozen dove hunts a year and will shoot about 14 boxes of of shells. I don't get the wildfowl shooting I would like so I doubt I shoot 25 nontox a year.

I'd say I shoot around 500-750 rounds a year at ducks and geese. I know that seems a lot but when your season come in the 3rd week of September and doesn't go out till the 2nd week of January, you hunt at least three days a week, in a good area....
Other game maybe 200 rounds a year. That counts doves, squirrels, barn pigeons, that kinda thing. My clay shooting is way down there in maybe the 500 cartridge range. Some years more, but that's probably average. If I'd shoot clays more I probably wouldn't shoot up so many shells at ducks! Destry

4,000 to 5,000 a year as a guess. Almost all at clays of some kind or another. Some Doves, some Pheasant. Used to hunt a lot of Prairie Chicken/Grouse, but not so much any more.
Also like to try my hand at Quail once or twice a year. Sam Ogle, Lincoln, NE |
