Default Thomas Gilbert's Parker

Jan. 18 1908 Sporting Life
http://www.la84foundation.org/Sports.../SL5019014.pdf
Among the many souvenir cards of greeting sent the Gun Editor is to be noted a photo of Fred Gilbert's seven-year-old son, Thomas Marshall Gilbert, showing how he celebrated the New Year. The successful combination is a bunch of pigeons, a twenty gauge Parker Hammerless, some boxes of Winchester-Du Pont shells and last, but not least, a bright-eyed boy who inherits his father's skill.

Anyone have knowledge of the gun's specifications or whereabouts?

And what are Winchester-Du Pont shells? The names don't seem to go together in my very little knowledge of our ammunition history.

The ‘machine loaded’ shells and components available in the 1895 Montgomery Ward & Co. catalog
http://books.google.com/books?id=zWe...page&q&f=false
The 'Trap Shooters Delight' could be ordered with "E.C.", Schultze, American Wood, Black Powder, Dupont Bulk Smokeless or Laflin & Rand Bulk Smokeless powder. 12g Winchester “Leader” and “Blue Rival” NPEs and UMC 12g Green “Trap” NPEs are offered.

Winchester Leader with Mullerite

U.M.C with whatever Bulk or Dense powder you desired

After about 1905 the shell makers stopped listing the specific powder

Inquiring minds want to know - was there really an Annie Oakley Gilbert?

DuPont didn't get controlling interest of Remington Arms Co., Inc. and Peters Cartridge Co. until 1934. Prior to that they supplied powder to all our ammunition manufacturers.

Default Thanks

Thanks Drew and Dave.
Some of the best sporting artwork is the result of ammunition marketing. The thread that Drew linked is fascinating.
Thanks again
