Bill, those are the 'screw-in' kind for hammer guns so you don't have to bite them to keep them in the chambers.
Nice job on the lifter Jeff!! |

Those cartridges that the squirrel is guarding look like they are in real nice condition. Are they 'U.S. AJAX' by any chance?

Roundsworth,
Yes they are. I collected shot shells a couple of decades ago. Almost all of them are in wooden ammo crates stored under the stairs. These were just a couple of loose ones left laying around in the utility room. I will take some better photos of the shells. I might have a bunch more. Are they worth anything? Best regards, Jeff

Jeff, they would sell for $5 to $10 on Gun Broker. Possibly more, depending on the heat of bidding. They look to be in real nice condition. My collection revolves around WRA Co. and Western, and UMC and Remington. Eley and Kynoch add a bit of variety! I collect only paper hulled shells with rolled over crimps and top wads. It sounds like tight criteria, but there are thousands of different combinations out there. I have been acquiring nice reprints of original cartridge catalogs to help me identify my specimens.

Type in "Ward's Auctions" in a search engine and that web site has auctions every few months. Single and groups of shotshells are only one of several items being auctioned. A number of shotshell boxes (even empty) bring some good money. You can find some Parker, as well as other gun company, advertising material being auctioned as well.
