Default More turkeys

Just ended my 46 th turkey season. As always, enjoyed every day of It. Our turkeys numbers in my part of Mississippi have been way down in resend years, but this years they seem to on the upswing. Had my best year in a while killing 2 in Mississippi and 2 in Kansas. Will put up pictures if I can figure out how. After missing with my DHE 16 with 32 inch barrels choked full firing Kent bismuth 5 shot, I returned to my old Browning 2000 3 inch 12 that has killed 101 turkeys. I badly want to kill one with a Parker but am having a hard time getting it done. ( 2 misses ) Like all of us I love nice doubles, but if I turkey hunt with a nice gun in Mississippi it want be nice very nice long. Plus most of our gobblers refuse to pose at 20 or 30 yards. Most of my hunting is done without decoys because when I got started there was no such thing. Some of my friends refuse to use them since the name of the game is calling him into killing range not decoying him.

Hoping to get a few fall turkeys in a couple months. I’ve managed two birds with a VH 16 and a 1878 12.

Hey Fred I have 12088, made in 1878 also. Is your serial number close to that?

Daniel what you need is a Parker 10 gauge known as the Short Ten. It chambers a 2 7/8” shell and kills anything with feathers out to 50 yards and beyond. Find one built on a 2 frame with 28” or 30” barrels and you’ll have about an 8 1/2 pound gun. Throw a leather sling on it and you can carry it all day long. Lots of guys on here use them and Mississippi patina just makes em look better. I had mine down there when I turkeyed around with Charlie and it didn’t hurt it one bit. Or hell, be like Charlie and use an 8 gauge 8-)

I believe you have to contact Josh Loewensteiner about Parker’s Found. Nice gun for sure. Short Tens just hammer the turkeys.

Fred, your gun appears to be an O grade top lever hammer gun.
