Default Where to hunt doves?

Where they are of course, in my back yard!

Every morning and evening, 50 - 100 gather to feed on the seed berries of the prickly ash trees along our driveway. They are mostly European banded doves with a few mourning doves.

But no, shooting them in the yard is off limits, so I will drive 4 hours west to hunt with a dozen DWWC buddies where we can shoot all we want and drink whisky and smoke cigars to boot. Actually , that is not so bad.

I am taking two Parker 20s and will start September 1 with the one that I grew up shooting - a Damascus barreled 20 on a 28 gauge frame. After 86er brought it back to life a few years ago, it has not been shot much until I bought some RST 2.5 inch low pressure shells. In two trips to the range, it has turned clays to powder out to 40 yards when I do my part, so wish me luck.

Thanks Charlie.
I am taking my Parker repro 20 gauge as backup just in case.

A conundrum :
1900 Parker 20 brought back 11 doves day 1 - made a few great shots
Parker repro 20 brought back 13 doves day 2 - made several great shots

Pretty even performance, but the old one received most of the attention from the other shooters!

We did have a good outing. It had been 50 years since I hunted doves with the Parker and it felt GOOD!
I hope to shoot some quail with it this winter and maybe a rabbit or two just to remember what it was like as a teenager. You cannot turn back the clock, but you can reminisce.
