A few weeks ago, I went to look at an 0 frame 28ga VH. Confirmed it was in its original configuration of straight stock, 28"barrels. The gun had been refinished some time ago, and I was struggling to figure out if the colors on the receiver were real or faux. I thought it might seem heavy with and 0 frame, but the 28" barrels made it pretty. Last thing I checked was wall thickness; OK, Original chokes of cyl and modified, and my heart sunk. It was now cyl and cyl. The left barrel had been honed.
Despite the really good price, I left it behind. I still feel bad about it, but it isn't of much use, other than a long skeet gun. |

The severely swamped barrels on the #0 frame 28 can be dealt with on a custom project. File the thick part of the barrels and file the breech balls to match and you have a very slim little 28. You may not lose much weight, but the appearance will improve quite a bit. Just don't ask me to donate my #0 frame 28s to the project.

I would like to think I’ll have it by next Friday or possibly the middle of the following week . Have a DH 12 gauge 3 frame 32” coming as well .

Incidentally a year or so ago someone on here was talking about Brenneke 28 gauge slugs . They “had” them at Jerry’s at the time and I failed to buy any , now Jerry’s is no more . Been looking around for someone else that sells them with not much luck . I do however have a mold for a 28 gauge compatible slug on order thru Erkbay . I sold my 28 gauge 600 JR just might need to scratch up another to load some slugs and buckshot . Have a pair of 28 gauge 9000’s but loading buck or slugs on one of them is a PITA .

i figure that a 28 ga slug would be a fine deer stoper...no 4 buckshot should do nicely up close shots....charlie

You may be correct , but I’ve never cared for #4 buck . I might however try some #1 , #2 and #3 .
