Default Mosby's 3rd Big Adventure

Florence has driven the birds somewhere else, as the same place I killed my limit Tuesday had few birds today. I decided to take an Ithaca Model 37 Deluxe as I take a different gun every time I go. It is a 16 gauge with a 28" modified choke made the year I was born. So it is old. I guess that is what they were called in the 50s but it is not like any other Ithaca 37, hand checkered with a nice piece of wood used.

Anyway, managed 9 birds in a drizzle at daybreak and Mosby loves getting these birds. He has gotten so smart in three hunts that when he hears the safety being taken off, he sits up and starts looking for the retrieve.

Nice! A slicker operating pump was never made.

Great pic and Ithaca's are great pumps. I had a 20 gauge in same model and loved the action on it and bottom ejection and wish it did not have a pattern problem. Looks like you got one that shoots straight. Great gun.

Once you get a lab trained up on game they are great partners and can become better hunters than you. Duck hunting with my lab in beaver ponds you have to be dead still so as not to shine your face or they might flare. Instead of raising head to keep an eye on working ducks I would just look down watch my dog, keep my head still and cut eyes. He would be watching with that big black anxious face of his and you would always know what direction they were coming from or if they were circling and working by just watching his eyes and face. Always knew when it was time to shoot by his body posture.

Heck I think with a couple of more years of work might of been able to teach him to shoot then he wouldn't have needed me at all.
