Default SBT finish

I have recently acquired an early (1917) SBT that appears to be unaltered except that the frame forend and bowguard are finished white and very shiny.
To my eye it looks like it might even be nickle plated. I have seen over a dozen SBT's and all were case color finished which l prefer estheticly but if this shiny finish is original l will leave it alone- otherwise my thought is to have the case finish redone- does anybody have any thoughts or information that might help?

You'll have to find a way to either post pictures or email them to one of us to post. Don't try to refinish the gun unless you hear from us. What is your serial number?

Default Metal Finish

From the description one would be suspicious that the metal has been buffed and polished. Rather unfortunate. I've seen this more than once, as I'm sure most of the other fellas have also. It is a cosmetic issue and the gun can still be enjoyed. Good luck. Mark
