Default Larry DelGrego & Son Shipping/Refinish Question

I plan to send my Parker to DelGrego for some repairs and have a few questions.
On their website under "Services" they have "Hard Copy Standard Appraisals" for what looks to be $100. Is this a mandatory service that is done once they receive the gun?
I plan on having screws repaired, new pad and crack in stock repaired. Also any other repairs (if any) that could be done without sacrificing the historical value of the gun. Dents, dings, scratches, etc...
It sounds like I just ship the gun to their store with some notes on what I want done and that's it. No need to contact?
Also any tips on the safest way to ship/package the gun.

Thanks, Dane

Why not ask them about their policies and how they do things?

Simply out of pure laziness and lack of email. The name gets tossed around this forum constantly so I figured at least one person would have experience with them...

I will call them.

I would never send any of my guns to a repair shop simply with some notes as to what I would like done to my gun.

A telephone discussion, at least, identifying every detail and the pricing of everything you'd like done. Leave nothing to chance or misinterpretation.

"Include a note with gun outlining what work you want performed. We will provide a detailed estimate for the necessary work and will await your approval before proceeding with any work.

Just saying...

I would still call them before shipping. They will return by "Registered Mail". You could ship to them the same way.

I have never had them do any work for me ,but I can say this ,I have contacted Larry a few times to discuss guns which I had thought they may have done and also to ask questions about late serial numbered " Remington Parker's " and have always been treated very politely although as mentioned ,they have never done any work for me ! I believe you will be very pleased if you call to discuss the gun ,Larry is very knowledgeable and seems to enjoy talking Parker Guns !

I agree call Larry, he is a very pleasant guy to deal with and will treat you great. I have had several jobs completed with them and have been pleased on all accounts. The estimate for the work is free, but you do need to pay for the return shipping. The $100.00 fee you mentioned is the cost to provide you with a written appraisal if that is something you want done. Good luck with your project.

Several years ago I sent my 16 gauge to him because it was doubling on me when the rear trigger was pulled. He repaired the gun and did an appraisal for me. The price was very reasonable and I have not since had any issue with the gun. Two thumbs up from me!
