Default One weekend, three hunts

Saturday morning, I took my VH 10 gauge for its inaugural hunt. Shot two Mallards

Saturday afternoon, I took my recently restored VH 20 quail hunting and got a bunch, including one double. Sherwood pointed for us.

Sunday all day, I took my GH 28 woodcock hunting and got the limit of three. Sherwood also pointed and retrieved his first woodcock. His retrieve was his best yet with any bird. Sherwood had help from my friend, Floyd's Brittany Sadie, who will hopefully be his future bride.

Great weekend and will be hard to match it

Congrats! Nothing much better than having hunts like those behind your own dog. It's great Sherwood will retrieve woodcock, there are some dogs that don't like them.

He really took to the Woodcock and just wanted to mess with them more than he does quail. It surprised me as well. He did not find and point a live one by himself which is the department where he needs most work. A beautiful point and back on Sadie towards the end.

He had no trouble finding and pointing the quail.

That is quite a weekend Mills, and it took my Britt at least four birds before she would pick up a mudduck! Makes me think I should get a new one, Britt that is. My lab will retrieve anything!

They all have different personalities and that just makes it interesting. We have been very lucky with Sherwood

Both of my German pointers and my Labrador had no issues retrieving woodcock or doves. My Labrador did balk on two occasions when I took two crows that flew too close while I was pheasant hunting a couple years ago.

Mills,
Congratulations, your smile tells it all. What a nice dog you have got started there. Our brittany cash pointed 2 grouse in less than 300 yards in 8 inches of snow yesterday. I walked an old 2 track and he plunged through snow the grouse just ran away, I could clearly see the point, and the tracks leaving.
