Default 10 ga to much for doves

Im really bored so I've bern looking forward towards hunting seasons but I don't care to hunt deer. Been thinking of doing some dove hunting but is my 10 ga to big? I mean both my 2 7/8 1 1/4 oz and 3.5" 1 3/4 oz or and 2 oz loads. If I use my modern 10 ga it will be wingmaster hd 1 3/4 oz #6 . Or my.ithaca crass with rst.if I don't sell it buy then. Will it tear up the birds? Or keep the shots long to keep them less mangled? Also I read that the average dove hunter only kills 3 out 25 shells aka a box I figured hewing a good shot and using a 10 ga I could do maybe ...15 or more per box can't say though never.hunted dove

milt the short 10 will be ok for doves the 3 1/2 is a littlew to much...it depends on your guns choke as to what range you might mangle the doves...i would not worry to much about manling to many of them...you will not hit them as well with a full choke gun unless as you say let them a little farther out.. be sure to take along plenty of shells if they are flying good...charlie

I just thinking bout using that bps because I might sell.that ithaca. Next month. I've done bought so many guns the past few months I feel burnt out lol. As far as chokes go I got5 for my 10 ga. A Kite mod briley a wad wizard of unknown construction I think uS just a regular full and a .680 choke I bought from george trulocks shop over in wigham. Aslo got a cheapo xxfull from h&r for their 10 ga and it patterns about the best.

Might just keep to crow hunting as I get the most joy out of it. I shoot them on the roost. You know how hard it is to get a crow to land when your with 70 yards lol but its fun. Also if I handloaded that 10 ga 3.5 I could.might load up 2 oz of #9 or #10 and rely on pattern deNsity over energy. Also other than #2 steel shot the Lite mod isn't worth much as a versatile choke

Milton,

I shoot dove with my 10'gauges. I do keep it to 1 1/8 or 1 1/4 oz loads. I will take the 1 1-4 oz load and only drop 1 1-8 oz of shot and press a SpredR 12 gauge disk onto the shot. It really helps a full choke 10 when the dove are within 25 yards.
