Default Damascus Rib on Vulcan Barrels

On a set of Vulcan barrels I was prepping for a reblacking I discovered the rib is Damascus, probably D2. Anyone else seen this ? The gun was made 1904.

I've seen Damascus ribs on Laminated and on Twist but I don't recall seeing a Damascus rib on fluid steel barrels.

It does not surprise me that some Damascus ribs got put on fluid steel barrels. They were likely hard to tell apart when in raw form and they both come out black when finished.
