Well I am waiting to the see more pictures.
What a long but fun day. Shooting started around 9AM with most Parker shooters shooting at least 100 targets, 50 skeet and 50 trap.
I shot very very well (way over my head for 3 out of 4 rounds) and broke 89 (home field advantage). Scott Kittredge and Frank Cronin tied for 2nd overall with 86 each. They settled the tie by shooting miss or out from the 27 yard line on the trap field. Frank was uncharacteristically shooting a 12ga with nitro powder. Scott was shooting his new hammer 10ga. They went for several targets before Scott left the door open and Frank closed it.
We shot a 10ga backing up a 12ga 27 yard line protection. The 12ga shooter always called for the bird and shot first. If he hit the target the 10ga shooters job was to not shoot (Bill Janelle failed just once), if the 12ga shooter missed and the 10ga shooter could reach out and hit the target the target was scored for that team. Bob Weeman shot incredibly well for his first time at the 27 yard line and I was able to back him up all but two times giving us the win with a 23.
Bob Weeman was on fire on the trap field today and broke his first 25 straight from the 16 yard line, earning a club patch. I also had a 25 straight shooting a straight grip DHE 12ga that John D. somehow missed buying at the Kittery Trading Post last year.
Frank allowed many of us who dared to shoot his 5 frame hammer 10ga with his 1 1/4 BP loads. I shot three targets from the 27 yard line and broke all three but did not know it until I could see a piece or two come out of the smoke cloud. Frank and his big 10 with BP is an attention getter. He also showed us a most interesting 12ga VH from 1928 that had been fitted by Parker with a pair of GH damascus barrels per request from owner of the GH who ordered the V. (PS Frank your 10ga fits me better than anybody else you know, always remember that
)
John Dunkle was there with his new to him 12ga VHE Skeet gun.
Dean Romig was shooting some little 28ga thing he picked up at a yard sale. We are always glad to see Dean as he brought some of his wifes famous cookies. This time I got to take the leftovers home COB!
Dave Suponski won most improved shooter since last year (wasn't too hard for him to do that
).
Rick Weik put together a really nice calendar with many Parker hunting and gun pictures from his friends albums here. I think he is going to have more printed and sell them for cost. Shoot him a PM if you want one. Sight unseen I can tell you that if you like Parkers you'll like the calendar and it would be worth a small cost if interested.
Thanks to everyone who came bringing lots of nice Parkers and shooting them all day. Thanks to those who loaned their guns for use (rather uncharacteristic was John Dunkle loaning Danny his skeet gun as he is usually borrowing everyone elses guns). Thanks to those who brought yummy dishes to eat.
We had two shooters who are not PGCA members but are members of Major Waldrons bring and shoot their VH 12ga's they have recently purchased.
We had a son bring his mother who had not shot trap or skeet and they were shooting the young mans grandfathers Parkers.
There were many shells expended, lots of laughter and comraderie on the grounds of the club today.
Happy 2012 everyone!
