Default Removing Blue from Damascus barrels?

I have an extra set of 12ga Damascus barrels That were (I believe rust blued) maybe cold blued. If they were rust blued what is the best way to remove the bluing and bring out the Damascus pattern best I can?

They are marked DAMASCUS STEEL and Drew says they are D4 (4 Iron Turkish)
That's what he wrote on the Barrel Evaluation anyway. I see a D and a 3 on the barrel flats so not sure if he was wearing his glasses. Drew ???

They are #2 frame and the forend lug needs soldering.

I believe i posted something along these line a few years back. Believe concensus was they would have to be refinished.

The D3 is grade not damascus.

I believe that the D designates damascus, the 3 the grade, which is what we generally call a D-grade.

Dale,
The right flat on underside of your Damascus barrels will be stamped D for Damascus and above it a number indicating the Crolle twists in the pattern.

Sounds like these barrels need the whole Monty. You say the forearm loop/lug is loose & needs re-soldered. I wonder what else may have come loose as well.

Send the barrels to Brad Bachelder for his inspection. Then follow his recommendations for repair and refinish.

D on the action water table indicates grade, (Grade 3). D on the barrel flats indicates Damascus steel. They are two different Ds.

Its not a substitute for a full refinish but often the pattern can be brought out by etching same as during a refinish. Results vary depending on a lot of factors but often it looks appropriate to the rest of the gun.
