Laser Engraving

It seems to be getting harder and harder to find someone to do hand engraving for something as simple as a monogram oval or shield.

Does anyone have experience with laser engraving the monogram shield?

This fellow here in Colorado claims that it's duck soup!

I think I will take him my little Buck 525 to see what he can do.

Geoffroy Gournet works exclusively by hand with hammer/chisel and no job is too small for him. I routinely send him screws to engrave and I usually have them back the next week.

I am familiar with Gournet and others, but I would prefer not to ship a gun across the country for a simple initial!
But thanks for the suggestion. It might be worth it. After all, I wouldn't have to ship the whole gun.

In the opening post I asked, "Does anyone have experience with laser engraving the monogram shield?"

Then I suggested that I might test his workmanship on the little Buck 525, which is a great little pocket knife. It's flat and would be a low-risk approach to seeing what the engraver could do.

It's probably worth sending a hand engraved gun to someone for hand engraving initials, whereas, it might be suitable to laser engrave an oval on a machine engraved modern gun, like a Beretta or a Guerini.

Laser engraving on a Parker - even just a stock oval - seems wrong.

There's two guy's right here in the Denver area who do nice traditional hand engraving.

Russ Zima is in Westminster and John Todd in Aurora. I'm sure either one could help you out without the need to ship it anywhere.
