Smile L.O.M. CASES

I have 7 L.O.M. cases. Of the 7 cases 4 are marked 30 and of those 3 have maker marks. The one with no maker mark measures 31 3/8 in length. The mouth measures 7 3/8 by 2 1/2. The Read Head case measures 31 1/4 in length. The mouth measures 7 1/2 by 2 1/4. The Bauer Bros measures 34 1/2 in length. The mouth measures 7 1/2 by 2 1/2. The Lyon and Coulson measures 35 1/2 in length. The mouth measures 8 by 2 1/2. I'm just wondering if the 30 stamped on them means something other. Thomas

I believe the 30 is an indication of barrel length.

Richard: That was my understanding but I can't believe the differance in lengths from the makers if that is the case. Then what might a case that is stamped 34 actually measure. Thank you for your reply Thomas

I have no idea what one would measure but would assume that the overall length would vary by manufacturer. I have a few cases marked 30 and none of them will fit a set of 32 inch bbls.

Thomas
The 30 is definetly the length of the bbls, and from what I've seen just about every case marked 30 is different. Every case I have marrked 30 takes a 32 inch bbls that is almost flush with the top of the bbl compartment.
My cases marked 28 accept up to a 30 inch bbls and I sold a case marked 26 that was perfect for a 28 inch bbl. I have an AC&F double ended case, its marked 30 but my 12 ga 2 frame gun just about disappers inside the case. This case accepts up to 34 inch bbls and probably made for a 3 frame or larger.
I have sold quite a few and I still can figure them out so I stop trying. But I would love to know what all the other numbers stand for. From where I stand it's clear as mud.

Angel: The one case I have marked 30 will hold my 5 frame 34 inch parker but is a little tight on width but has inch to spare on length. That is why I posted the question. Thomas

Wow, I thought my case was weird. The one I have measures 37 inches in lenght and the bbl would be flush with the top. Now all I need is a Parker with 34 inch bbls,,, in 16 ga..
