Chris I had to google the Blue Belton. Now that I see it is also a Setter it makes sense. I new the Gordon was a setter cause I have a print of one. Now that I seen the picture of the Blue. That's going to be a good looking dog, and a big dog.

I'm so glad I stumbled into this thread. Ben is, indeed, a handsome little guy. But the thing that truly impresses me is that he seems like a CALM little guy. In both of your photos, he seems to be asking you: "Okay...what's next". No hyper-activity. No stress. Just a handsome young pup waiting for the opportunity to please you and do your bidding. I've got a hunch this little guy and you will share many, many long and rewarding days afield for many years to come. Sure, he'll goof up from time to time. Be kind and gentle with your corrections. That's all part of the fun of having a wonderful pup like this, and growing him into your hunting buddy. Man.... I just LOVE gun dogs! And I love to work with them when they are "little kids".
Now, all that said, I don't know a lot about Parker guns, but I DO know a lot about dogs and pups, and I like what I am seeing in these two pics. Please do post photos of Ben's development. I really hope you will do that. |

Patrick ,good eye...he is very calm, now he's still a pup and loves to play, but from day one a little grunt on my part can put him on his bed for the night while I watch T.V ,or sit him down while I open his kennel door or walk first through my own...and he just sits and looks at me with that same expression and wag's his little tail.
He comes when called ,and follows me around faithfully I had him point a grouse tail on a string yesterday...now ,like a lot of Newfoundland bred setters he actually tends "set" on his belly like his forefathers were bred to do across the pond, it's not as pretty I know but bothers me none at all..although he did point on all fours as well. Funny story.the guy who bred them is an acquaintance of mine who was out to sea when I got the pup, when he found out who had bought him, he told his wife to call me back right away and return my money !!! so I went back down with my Brother in tow to pick up my cash ,the Brother took one luck at the remaining pups and said "Let her keep the money ,I'm taking one too!!!" So now Ben gets to traipse the barrens and woods this Fall with his big brother and so do I ! |

Chris,
I love true setters. I'm personally a versatile Lab man, but I've chased a lot of breeds around while hunting with friends. One of the finest quail dogs I ever followed was a true setter. I loved working with that dog. I think Ben's going to be a great hunting buddy. Be patient with him and in a few seasons, all of a sudden, it'll all come together wonderfully and flawlessly, and then your buddies will be talking about Ben for years to come! Patrick |

A little update
Well he's 18 weeks old now ,has great manners around the house ,but more of a "puppy " than the Drahthaar ever was, I've been mostly doing obedience and socilization with him ,but yesterday evening I introduced him to planted Pigeon...he walked on the first bird ,but the rest were rock solid and he even waited for us to flush .

Great looking Setter. Be easy on him, Setters are soft dogs, it looks like you have a real keeper there.....
