Looking at a CHE-16 thoughts?

I have found a good looking CHE-16 for sale on GI # 100740973 Take a look and give me your thoughts. I plan to call today about the gun specs. thanks all SXS Ohio....bird season is close....(-:

Wood is refinished. Checkering not re-cut when it likely should have been if the wood was finished. Buttplate (and likely guard) have been reblued. What is left of the case colors is hard to tell if they look correct or not.

I would be curious as to what others have to say about the engraving. Those are the most realistic looking dogs (as far as being dimentional) that i have ever seen on a Parker. And they do not quite look like factory work. And the "hazy lines" in the sky areas of the game scenes also do not look like any treatment normally done on Parkers. And some of the scroll looks chased out and not as dimensional as it should. I suspect a lot of engraving was re-cut on this gun at one time. ??? Thoughts?

Very nice engraving, but I suspect it is not Parker. If it was all original that would be a fantastic price ,but I think the price reflects what the gun is. The last two all original CHE 16's that went through Julia were $25K +.

I have to agree with Brian. I really like the engraving, but it doesn't look Parker. The dogs
look more life like than you usually see in parker engraving.

It looks like the engraving has been recut and embellished in the process. I've not seen Parker use digits like the serial number on the tang before.

I'm certainly no expert on engraving but nothing looks right about that engraving.

Don't see that # in the serialization book. The engraving and the boarder of the checkering on the wrist, don't look correct?
Could this one be an Upgrade?

I saw this gun there is no rib marking either would this be a Remington gun

It wouldn't surprise me if it turns out to be a DelGrego - Runge upgrade. For a CHE in the 1927-28 era there are just too many things that don't ring true to be an original CHE. We will probably never know for sure but it may have been a rebarreled, restocked, reengraved VHE....

Also, the position of the quail's wings on the floor plate, the posture of the dogs and their leg position, the straight front leg always on the viewer's side with the cocked leg always on the off side (all typical 'Runge-style'). The case color in the forend latch finger recess looks very much 'cyanide' and not so much bone-charcoal. The drop points and 'nose of the comb' suggest a Remingtonesque style.
