Default Black Powder

So a friend called to a well known muzzleloading place in southeast PA to check on black powder availability, and learned it’s $22. plus tax per HALF POUND. First I heard of BP being put up in 1/2 pounders. I asked but he didn't know what brand that was. Just sayin for those who load BP. You may want to find some before supply/demand economics trickle to your areas.

I’ve been to that place once and not for the fair . Got a few flints from them and of all things a very nice 1880’s -1910’s PA made meat cleaver . Of the five or six cleavers I possess it’s the nicest .

you do know that Goex has been closed

https://www.americanhunter.org/conte...goex-facility/

supply will be tight

Dixon's is a great place to deal with, anyway always have been - the Gun makers fair was a must for me for many years

these folks -https://mainepowderhouse.com/- have had a good reputation in the reenactor circles ( and that bunch burn powder - I used to go through 10 pounds a year back when I did it)

Thanks Rick, yes my friend and I both knew that. Actually I've had a "connection" to Goex since 1972 when G-O bought DuPont's former Belin BP works nearby me in Moosic, abandoned the old wheelmills and moved other machinery to its then new operation in Minden LA.

Belin had been in operation since 1912 and that ended a 60 year operating span, and now Goex is out of the BP biz after ~50 years. As I understand it, there are now no operational BP mills in the US and only a few remaining in the world.

There “was” a guy in the Winchester VA area close to where the North-South Skirmish thing is at , anyway he bought most kinds of BP in bulk and sold it . I dunno if he’s still in buisness or the name .

Regarding the Gun Maker's Fair, I read recently that Dixon's will no longer stage the event, and in 2022 it'll be held a few miles down the road at a local community center. I hope it continues as it was a truly unique gathering of some extremely gifted artisans.

So the Dixon ML Fair will probably be held at the Kempton Community Center. Used to live about 10 minutes from Dixon's on Crystal Cave Rd.
