Default Need 16g pheasant load

I have a ton of once fired Cheddite 2 1/2" hulls and Winchester primers. All I have for bigger birds are the 1100fps lite RST loads in #8 shot, so I'd like to load up some pheasant loads for my 16 VH's and GH's (one is Damascus). I have a variety of powders but will have to source some wads. Looking for 7/8oz at 1200FPS or maybe 1oz loads. I have #4 and #5 shot on hand. Any help appreciated. BTW what is the TC16 wad???

Andy, a couple loads I had tested at Precision with 2 1/2" 16 ga. Cheditte hulls.

2 1/2 Cheditte plastic Same hull
Fioche 616 primer Cheditte 209
15.7 gr International 15.7 gr. International
Sporting 16 wad Sporting 16 wad
7/8 oz. #7 7/8 oz. #5
6 pt crimp 6 point crimp
Avg vel. 1211fps Avg press 8433 Avg vel 1229fps Avg press 8733

I don't know how the Winchester primers will affect these loads. Might want to test some before loading a bunch.

7s worked good on Whitewing and Mourning doves , the 5s whipped the pigeons @*&es over sunflower fields in the Texas valley and Hondo area.

Keith exactly what I was looking for. Cheddite and Winchester primers are essentially the same. I have both. So cheddite hull, cheddite 209, international and sporting 16 wad? I have all that. Thank you

I like to keep PSI a little lower for my damascus guns. Fromm the Hogdons Reloading site:
2 1/2" cheddite
Cheddite 209 primer (i sub a Win 209)
Universal 19.9 gr
7/8 0z 6's
SG 16 wad
1150 fps and 7500 psi
This is the load I use, and doubt that the 50 fps less makes any difference,

Thank you Harold. I think at 1100fps and #8’s (the RST I happen to have) they are tickling those big roosters at a decent distance. I think shot size is a major culprit here too.

I use the exact same load as Harold but 7s in right barrel and 6s in left. If my dogs have the pheasant pinned first shot should be closer and rising bird, second probably a longer shot. I use the same combination on Sharptail.

Here is a 1 ounce load that was tested by Precision that I am using.16 gauge 2 1/2 inch Cheddite hull and primer,18 grains of Hodgdon Long Shot,Gualandi 2116 wad from Precision,or SG-16 wad from Ballistic Products,1 ounce nickel plated shot.I usually load 6 1/2 size shot with 6 point crimp. This load tested at 1200 FPS- 7270 PSI.It has worked great for me on roosters with my older 16s with short chambers.

Another great load candidate. Thank you. Someday I’m doing to work up a load to be tested. Sounds like fun.

Jeff, I have been looking for a 1 oz load to use on wild birds. I'll have to try and locate some Longshot, or find a 1 oz load in a 2 1/2' hull using 7625, PB, Universal, Unique, or International--all of which I have.
I have heard Longshot doesnt meter well, but I only want to load up a few boxes.
