I think think there is any tougher hunting in the uplands than grouse without a dog. Way to go. Gorgeous gun too.

Thanks to all responses. It is tough hunting without a dog, but fun, good exercise and mentally therapeutic.

I've hunted grouse and woodcock all my life without a dog, except for the last three years.
I will say that the toughest part of hunting birds without a dog is not being able to find the ones you knew you hit. .

I am surprised Dean....Wouldn't your girl Toby stay close and walk with you in the Grouse woods?

Yes she would in her early years but when she was almost 4 there was a huge explosion 1/4 mile from my house. The curtains blew in from the shock wave and pictures fell off the walls, etc. and from that day on she was gun shy.
