Semper Fi, Mark and to all other brothers and sisters I don't know about. We in the USMC are still going strong and each year is more glorious than the last.

A Tribute to Harry Marshall, USMC
Today my wife and I attended a memorial service for our recently deceased good friend Harry T. Marshall III, USMC, wounded in action in Vietnam 7-4-68 for which he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was one of only three left standing that day and he saved a lot of lives fighting on through his two wounds, one a rifle shot. Harry used to like to say he thought he would join Thomas Jefferson as having died on July 4, as he witnessed the Viet Cong who shot him.
Harry was a direct descendant of Colonel Charles Marshall, General Robert E. Lee's aide-de-camp, and was related to Chief Justice John Marshall and General George Marshall of WWII fame. Harry, who enlisted during Vietnam, was a true Virginian, Southerner, American hero, and proudly ALWAYS A MARINE! |

I just finished watching an excellent documentary about the Marines at the battle of Wake Island - the Alamo of the Pacific. There were a small group of survivors from that long ago battle, each remembering their part in the events that took place; combined with file footage from WW-II, it made a memorable documentary. I learned a lot from watching it.
Those guys set the bar very high for themselves and all the Marines that have followed. The US Marines continue to keep these traditions strong. Well done guys! |
