Default Live pigeon guns

Just curious, when you hear people talk about "live pigeon guns" were these guns made any different than just a longer barreled 12GA with an omitted safety? I'm familiar with the live pigeon game and know people usually want a tight patterning gun to really hammer those birds. Were the pigeon gun barrels the same as normal barrels with regards to the bore size and forcing cone length? Thanks in advance!
