Default Baker single barrel trap

Not a double barrel....so breaking the forum rules a little

What’s the general consensus on these baker guns. It’s a very early serial number gun and it’s in exquisite condition.

Just looking for the brain trusts thoughts and opinions on these. It’ll be more a collector piece with occasional sunny day trap shooting.

Thanks in advance

Daryl Hallquist (?) has a web site devoted to Baker.s. Also take a look at Conroy’s American Single Barrel Trap Guns. The first and by far most extensive chapter is devoted to Bakers. There were two recently on GI. A friend has one with an original adjustable comb. Very nice.

Good luck.

I bought a Baker Sterling straight gripper a little over a year ago just before the CV hit. Shot it a few times at sporting clays, targets on call, and did pretty well. Now I'm waiting for our Trap clubs to get going this year. She's a great shooting gun and kind of a head turner whenever I've had her out. 100+ year old mechanics are perfect after I replaced the ejector spring as you'll read in this thread.

Randy Davis is a great source on American single barrel trap guns and I'm pretty sure he has owned 3 or 4 Bakers. You should reach out to him or maybe he will reply to this thread.

How do we get on Daryl's website. The Frank Conley book is a little pricey but one appears occasionally at a fair price.

You can go to bakercollectors.com and you should see the new website as it is constructed so far. Many more pictures are coming soon as well as other Baker information. Many thanks to Drew and others for helping do this. Without Drew's help, I fear the information on the original website would have been lost. The original website , developed with the assistance of Dr. Robert Decker has been on the web about 10 years. The new website will salvage most of the original information, but will a lot more that has not been published.
