I don't see any sling swivels, typical in a lot of German guns. That would be one more plus, which I hope to confirm once I receive the gun, in keeping with the clean lines. Billk

The Kettner name is well known and highly respected in German gun collector circles. I'd suggest you contact the German Gun Collector's Assn. for more info.
Overall, a nice gun. And the horn guard is of little consequence if it's to your tastes. This one adds an effective pistol grip to the gun as well. |

Eduard Kettner was not a maker, but was a retailer. They were known for selling quality. I have had a few drillings and two double rifles sold by them.

I've also owned a Kettner drilling. 16 x 16 x 9.3 x 72r. It too had the horn trigger guard. These trigger guards are quite attractive and gracefully shaped but rather thick for added strength yet are still a bit fragile and subject to insects and shrinkage. I see that yours has a few insect holes and is cracked near the screw behind the trigger bow. All this can be fixed and filled with an epoxy like Acroglas.
I really like the lines of your gun and the long 30"? barrels. Please post more pictures when the gun arrives! David. |

Thank you David. You are almost correct on the length of the barrels. The auction site listed them as 29.5" long, which comes out to 75 centimeters long. Since that is a whole metric number, I believe the barrel length to be the original.

Great gun Bill. The buffalo horn guards are quite nice in the cold. Would be a favorite if it were mine.

Could you share pics of the barrels flats and what's stamped under the barrels themselves? |
