Default Tomorrow is the Anniversary of 9-1-1

I was at the Flight 93 Memorial today for a visit. Many preparations are being made for the anniversary celebrations tomorrow. I had no idea how extensive the property is or how much has been done to recognize this tragic event. There is a several mile private drive through the memorial property and a bell tower and memorial building to recognize the event. Look it up on google and visit if you can. Tomorrow will be a big day up there. However, the NPS, in their infinite wisdom, has said that this year's event will be "private". It wasn't private today, with rows of porta potties and parking lots full of cars. I don't think "private" will be the case tomorrow either, whatever the websites say. Apparently, the public will be allowed on the property after the 9:45 AM ceremony attended by the families of the heroes and President Trump.

1st photo is of evacuees from Lower Manhattan on the after deck of the M/T ADRIATIC SEA. They are on their way to debark on the other side of Upper New York Harbor at Jersey City. (At the time, exit by sea was the only way to get either off the Island or get Up-town.)

People of all ages, sexes, nationalities, Manhattan natives and tourists; and pets. Everyone was helpful, calm, and polite.

All elements of the marine industry in the area were coordinated, and without any preparation, by the U.S. Coast Guard Captain of the Port, for the "Sea Lift".

2nd photo is a view of Lower Manhattan from the East River. Incongruously arty for what was going on that day.

Another day that will go down in infamy.

Our local news station did a piece on it and I was glad to see there are still responsible journalists out there.

I will never forget that day or the feeling of great sadness I experienced as I sat and watched events unfold. The Ground Zero memorial in NYC is a fitting tribute and also a powerful experience.

I can never forget because my then 21 year old daughter was doing emergency Med rotation on an ambulance and was there triaging as all came down. Luckily she survived but as this date nears her post becomes worse even after 19 years. A 21 year old college student should not have to see the things she saw that horrific day. God bless them all

All your 9/11's were the 5th anniversary of my Dad's passing. So yeah, for my brothers and sisters, that day is a our day of infamy. BTW I'm a native New Yorker and watched the towers go up as a kid and watched them come down as an adult.
