Default VH 28 GA Sighting

Never thought I would see this at the local gun club. Last Tuesday at boys night out for skeet and trap one of the locals walked up to me with this little 28to show me. He knew little of it except that it belonged to his neighbor who would never part with it. Apparently the owners Father was a contractor of sorts and had completed a concrete job for a local resident, this being back in the early 50's. Fortunately for the owner and his Father the homeowner was short on cash and offered the little 28 as payment. Pleasant gun to handle with the 28" barrels. Has some obvious issues but I could make it work. Reminds me of another story where a local land owners Father traded a Ford PU Truck for about 125 acres back in about the same era as I recall. I don't seem to recall having been involved in any opportunities such as these, speaking for myself.

Why doesn't the gun have a serial number on the trigger guard? Does it have a serial number on other parts?

The remainder of the gun is numbered correctly. I have no clue why there is no number on the trigger tang. A replacement possibly??

It’s difficult to tell from the pictures but I would bet the number on the guard was removed when the stock was pinned/refinished. The mullered border looks to have been removed as well and the wood appears to have been over sanded in numerous areas. Owners father is still probably ahead in the game unless he poured a few truck loads of concrete!
