Charlie sounds awesome. I'm gonna take my 10 lifter to Wyoming this year for sage chickens. Doves would be a blast. I have 12 gauge inserts for my 10 lifter.

There is so much interest in loading and shooting the short 10, maybe the powers that be should consider a separate thread or topic for it. It is something to think about.

i m loading no 7 1/2 shot...shot a dr pepper can at 32 steps right barrel 13 hits left barrel i could not count the holes...the shells were the paper hull low brass victor shells had to use the old no 57 primer in them...the smoke really smalled good coming out of those old hulls...got 50 shells loaded now run out of empty hulls guess i need to buy some new ones to load up...the old gun was a 10 ga lifter low serial no 5884...its one of those plain steel marked barrel guns..bores a little rough but not bad...i bought this thing off the internet for a 12 ga when it arrived it was a 10 ga it was so tight and good looking i just kept it...hammers are tight as a new gun i do not think it s been shot much...have not weighed the gun but guessing about 8 1/2 lbs i can handle it pretty good....the ded dot loads sounded good with not to muck recoil very small... the 19 grains of reddot with 1 1/8 ounce of lead is the best small game and dove load you can find...in the 10 ga ....these old early lifters are fun guns the barrels are really swamped a lot looking down the barrels between the hammers and the bead you have the best sight pattern you could ask for....charlie

Default Reloading 10ga

Charlie, I hunted dove last year with a grade 3 10ga lifter with 20gr of 700 X and 1 1/8 oz of 7 1/2 shot. Worked good and lots of fun. Carvel

caravel these old guns are sure lot of fun way more than a neww auto loader or new pump gun...but i m not putting out the old a 5 browning or something like the model 12....the reddot load is a good load i have never tried 700 x....will keep this in mind...i got to go do some bush hogging were we can see a dove and find it....charlie

loaded up about 20 more hulls i found in my pile of old hulls got 10 more to load it will give me a little over 2 boxes looking forward to shooting these shells up...gona carry a 20 ga parker a v grade gun as backup in case i run out of shells....gona use factory shells in the 20 ga...so if you hunt doves with your old 10 ga from time to time try the reddot load of pete lesters you will be impressed...charlie

I’ve been using that 1 1/8 ounce 19 grains of Red Dot in my open choked EH with the factory 28” barrels for skeet with excellent results . And I’ve been contemplating using it for dove as well . Only problem is getting invited to a good shoot !
