I was looking at this firm's damascus snap caps and saw this on the list of guns headed to the southern

i thought it was interesting - with almost half the wall thickness of my hammer ten- this one was just reproofed for 3 inch nitro shells

This is certainly a fine gun. And well done per Mr. Barclay's usual high standards. I wouldn't fret the wall thickness. It has ample. And it passed proof. What's to worry?

I would not fire 3" cartridges in this gun. Ever. There would be little point, since it is a shooting treasure, not waterfowl artillery any longer.

agreed John- I would not worry and I wasn't fretting the wall thickness- my comment was meant more to put the concerns we often discuss here in perspective, I have always liked at least 35 thousands in my guns and I shoot RST or equal reloads.


and yes- even though the barrels passed a 3" nitro proof - its still 130+ year old wood taking the pounding, another reason for the light loads

2890 pounds sterling equates to about $4770 with an exchange of $1.65 to the pound . I can think of a couple American made doubles I could get for that amount .

While this gun is certainly not cheap, neither is anything worth having.

You could easily buy a couple of Chevrolets for the price of an S-Class Mercedes, too.

But then, all you'd have would be Chevrolets.

I picked up this 10 ga Dougall about a year ago. I really liked it and it fit me well and just seemed natural to add it...aside from the fact that it appeared to have never had a screw turned...they were all perfect. It did need some work...a new hammer spring and and some work on the actual hammers but after some great work by Dewey, its now all ready to go for next season...waterfowl or maybe a tower shoot.

I really like the Jones under lever on the gun listed above. This one has the Dougall patented lockfast with Stanton locks.

mighty nice gun you have there it always amazes me how well these old guns have held up after a century and more....charlie
